Auli is a popular hill station perched in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand state that also known as ‘Auli Bugyal’ which means ‘meadow’ in the regional language (Garhwali).
In Auli, different National and international level winter sports championship are organized during winter season. It is situated 10-hour long drive from Haridwar or Rishikesh.
Auli is amidst by tall standing, snow-capped Himalayan range which work as an ideal backdrop for your Instagram photographs. You can find the existence of Auli from 8th century. It is believed that, Guru Adi Shankaracharya visited Auli during his lifetime.
In Auli, you can enjoy cable car ride which is a major tourist attraction of Auli. Locally, it is popular as Gondola, which is one of the highest cable car in Asia. It starts from Joshimath and ends at Auli, covers 4 Km distance in 24 Min.
While hiking through the trails, you can enjoy enchanting glimpses of the Nanda Devi, Mana Parvat, and Kamat mountain ranges. You can enjoy the views of apple orchards and lush deodar trees from the boulevards of the slopes.
Covered under the blanket of glittering snow almost around the year, Auli is one of the famous Ski Resort in India. It lies just 13 Km far away from Joshimath , a town that is the gateway to Badrinath Dham, and some of the finest treks in the region.

Located at the height of 2800 m, Auli is paradise for Trekkers that offers numerous treks where you can enjoy the different colors of nature, meadows, and feel the exhilarating freshness which gives you memorable experience. You can enjoy the short treks such as Gursobugyal, Chattrakund lake, etc.
Auli has the world’s highest man-made lake that located in the middle of the slopes of the mountain. This magnificent lake is amidst by colorful flowers that increase the beauty of this lake.
Detailed Itinerary of Auli
Day 0 :
- Rendezvous at the common pick up point for the trip.
- Depart from Delhi in the evening.
Day 1:
- Reach Joshimath and check-in to your room. Freshen up and explore the nearby place and admire the nature.
- In evening enjoy the bonfire wth some light music followed by dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2:
- Start your morning with breakfast at the hotel and proceed for a day tour to the Auli lake by Auli ropeway, starting from Joshimath and ending in Auli, which offers a majestic view of the Himalayan ranges.
- After a tiring day get back to your hotel. Enjoy bonfire with some music in the evening followed by dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3:
- After breakfast, depart for Devprayag, Rudraprayag and Karnprayag and witness the sangam of tributaries of river Ganga.
- Say goodbye to the mountains and depart for Delhi.
Day 4:
- Reach New Delhi early morning by 7 am with sweet memories and a promise to come back again.

Auli is an all-year-round destination that means you can visit Auli around the year. Summer season is perfect for people who come from hotter locations. Due to possibilities of landslides, Monsoon is not good for visit Auli. Winter is ideal for snow enthusiasts. Thus, you can plan the Auli trip around the year depending on your purpose.
Mobile connections –
There are no issues with the mobile network but it’s signal strength could be low. Although, BSNL, Airtel and Vodafone have good signal in Auli. But if you are considering visiting remote places or beyond Ski turf then signal may get lost.
How to reach Auli
By Air-
The nearest airport to Auli is Jolly Grant in Dehradun which is situated 179 kms away from Auli. There are daily flights from Delhi and other major cities to Dehradun. You can take taxi or cabs that are easily available for Auli.
By Train –
The closest railway station is Haridwar from Auli which lies about 150 km. Haridwar railway station is connected to several cities in the country. You can easily get bus or taxi services for Auli from Haridwar.
By Bus-
There are no direct buses to Auli. So, firstly you have to take bus for Joshimath from Dehradun, Delhi, Rishikesh, and from Joshimath, you can take a ropeway or a taxi. Auli is situated at a distance of only 16 km from Joshimath.
By Cable Car-
The most famous approach to reach Auli is by cable car. It covers 4 Km distance in just 30 Min.
