Prashar Lake Trek
Amidst the Dhauladhar ranges in Kullu Valley, Serene Prashar Lake is nestled in the beautiful Indian State Himachal Pradesh, Mandi at 2,730 m that is the destination of this trek. Prashar Lake Trek passes through a dense forest and several magnificent water streams and you can enjoy the local culture as the path goes through villages.
Parashar Lake is a religious place for Hindus. People believe that the mythological sage Parashar used to meditate here who is the son of Maharishi Shakti and the grandson of Maharishi Vashisht. The old pagoda-like temple is dedicated to him.
The Prashar Lake Trek begins from Himalayan village, Bagi from where entire trekking route is 7.5 km long. The path is mostly uphill and you have to pass through the dense forest. The hiking across the trek is picturesque because of the long Pine and Deodar trees and magnificent hills.
During winters, the Lake and its surroundings are fully covered with snow offering a magical views. You can do this trek around the year, although the best time to do the trek is pre-monsoon and post monsoon seasons.
Perched about 49 Km north of Mandi in Kullu Valley, Prashar Lake is serene surrounded by an enchanting landscape and the vast sky above. Prashar Lake Trek offers a 180 degree panoramic view of the Dhauladhar, Pir Panjal and Kinnaur mountain ranges.
There is a three storied ancient Pagoda architectured temple nestled just on the edge of the Holy Lake which has marvelous wooden structure.
The lake is surrounded by small hills, so you can climb on any slope that needs to walk more than 500 meters to reach the top and you can have the magnificent glimpse of far stretched mountain ranges, Lake, temple and the mighty Himalayan peaks.
Another interesting element regarding Prashar Lake is a miniature island set in the middle of the lake that keeps moving and changes its position around the year. The Lake water looks entirely blue and on a sunny day beautiful reflections of the surroundings can be observed.
It is believed that Prashar lake has been discovered by the Pandavas (from the epic Mahabharata). Prashar Lake Trek also offers the local culture as the trail passes through small Himachali villages.
Day 0:
- Assemble at Majnu ka Tila by 8:45 pm. We start our journey towards Baggi which is 40kms from Mandi by 9 pm.
- We’ll take our first stop at a restaurant near Murthal for dinner and then continue our drive to Baggi.
Day 1:
- Reach Mandi in the morning by 7 am. From Mandi, it’s a short 2-hour drive to Baggi village, which is the starting point of the trek. Relax a bit and start your trek to Parashar Lake.
- After the stretch of about half km, you will reach the forest from where the real trek starts. After an uphill walk of around 5 km, you will reach a small meadow, which is a nice place to relax.
- One can have its first sight of snow-capped peaks from the meadow. It takes around 4-5 hours to reach the lake. There is a pagoda temple near the lake, explore the lake and the temple.
- Dinner and bonfire in the night. Overnight stay in tents.
Day 2:
- Wake up early and enjoy the sunrise. Explore the area near lake and after breakfast. Start your downhill trek towards Baggi.
- It takes around 3 hours to reach Baggi village.
- Our vehicle will pick you from Baggi and we will start our return journey to Delhi.
- Drive back to Delhi.
Day 3:
- Reach New Delhi early morning by 7 am with sweet memories and a promise to come back again.
How to Reach Here
Firstly , you have to reach Mandi city of Himachal Pradesh which is well connected to the rest of the country by road, Rail and Air.From Mandi, you can hire a taxi for visiting nearby places for 1500 – 2000 Rupees. There are few buses which ply from Mandi to Baggi. However, keep in mind that these buses only run between 08 – 11 am.
By Rail
Chandigarh is the Nearest Railway Station to Mandi that is 187 km from here. You can take a cab or direct bus to Mandi.
By Road
Mandi is well connected to major cities such as Delhi, Chandigarh and Shimla, which makes it accessible for travellers to travel by road. Picturesque views will capture your eyes while you drive up to this beautiful place. HRTC has provided a good number of busses that ply from different cities to Mandi.
By Air
Bhuntar Airport in Kullu is the closest Airport to Mandi which is located at a distance of 60 km from Mandi. There are daily flights for major airlines like Indigo, Air India and SpiceJet ply frequently to this airport from mainly prime cities in the country.
