Sar Pass Trek
Nestled in the tranquil Parvati Valley of Kullu, Sar Pass offers enchanting views of the howling Parvati river. The Sar top presents a panoramic canvas of snow-capped peaks and misty mountain valleys. The Sar Pass trek also offers some of the finest campsites such as Min Thach, Biskeri Thach and Nagaru.
Sar Pass is a moderate trek which is an ideal for beginners. The trail starts from 1650 meters and goes up to an altitude of 4180 meters.
Kasol is the starting point of Sar Pass Trek which is popular among backpackers, trekkers and nature enthusiasts. It is well known as Mini Israel and located 42 Km from Kullu.
The trail is truly mesmerising, enhanced by a handful of gurgling streams and have to cross the icy waters of the river Parvati on their way towards the serene little hamlet of Pulga.
Although the climb is tiring at some moments, you will be honoured by stunning green meadows, quaint villages, and the amazing slide after the pass. Although, the trail needs a level of fitness and the minimum age is 14 years to participate.
Perched at the height of 13,700 ft. in the Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, Sar Pass Trek offers you unique experience of varied trails, the quaint Himalayan hamlets, huge meadows, and forests with a different type of flora & fauna.
In the local language, ‘Sar’ means Lake. Although, Sar Pass Trek, you will pass by a glacial lake and a pass, located at an elevation of 13,800 feet. The trail originates from Kasol, is an ideal place for backpackers and passes through Parvati valley of Himachal Pradesh.

Trek starts from Kasol and goes through thick forests to the Himalayan village Grahan. Capture the amusing views of Chanderkhani and Parvati valley. The mesmerizing glimpses of the snowy capped peaks of the Parvati valley will surly leave you fascinating. Sar Pass Trek is one of the most marvellous treks in the Himachal Pradesh.
Day 0: Overnight Journey from Delhi
- Rendezvous at the common pick up point for the trip
- Depart from Delhi in evening.
- Overnight journey in Volvo/ AC Tempo Traveller/ SUV.
Day 1: Registration and Orientation at Kasol
- Arrive at Kasol Base Camp in the morning and complete the registration. This day is for acclimatization; orientation session will be given along with the information like rucksack packing, marching/walking technique and general awareness about the trek route.
- In the evening, you can explore the village and by night sit around the bonfire. You will be served with dinner, after which you will sleep to get ready for the trek the next morning.
Day 2: Trek to Grahan Village (4 to 5 hrs)
- Wake up to the beautiful Himalayan sunrise at Base Camp. Have breakfast and drive to centre of Kasol to start your exciting trek! The easy trail which is frequently used by locals will take you to through pine forests. In a couple of hours, you will be able to cover much of the distance as the trail is easy to climb. After reaching the Grahan Nahal, the trail becomes rocky and steep. The locals say that the Rhododendron petals can be eaten whole and the syrup can be mixed with water to make a refreshing drink. You can definitely try that when in the Himalayas! The steep climb of an hour will take you to your destination for the day. Reach Grahan Village by evening and freshen up. Have your dinner and stay overnight the camps.
Day 3: Grahan village to Min Thatch (4 to 5 hrs)
- Start your trek towards the north of the camping ground at Grahan. You will bump into many locals on the way using the Min Thatch trail. After walking a little more, you will see the Min Thatch, Nagaru and Sar top on the mountains. The steeper trails will take you to the woods. Remember to stay with your group here as the trail becomes steeper and a bit confusing.
- Cross the lush green forest and reach Min Thatch. Admire the Chanderkhani stretch and many more ranges from the campsite at Min Thatch.
- Have your dinner and stay overnight at the camps.
Day 4: Min Thatch to Nagaru (4 to 6 hrs)
- Have your breakfast and trek through the pastoral forest covered with snow from Min Thatch to Nagaru. You will have to be careful on this trail as the steep slope and the snow will make the trek difficult here. -After a difficult trek for 2 3 hours, you will finally reach the Nagaru campsite. Enjoy the mesmerising vistas of the magnificent mountain across the Parvati valley. See the small glittering lights of the Manikaran town as the night sets in. It gets extremely chilly in the evening.
- It is advisable to sleep early to avoid catching cold next.
Day 5: Nagaru to Biskeri Thatch via Sar pass (6 to 8 hrs)
- Rise and shine early morning to start your trek. Climb up through the snow trails and admire the dazzling peaks of Tosh Valley. The exhilarating view on the top of Sar Pass will leave you spellbound! Spend some time there and take in the beauty of the place. Slide down to the valley but take the necessary precautions. The sliding downhill is almost 1 KM! Walk for an hour and cross some magical water streams to reach the Biskeri Thatch campsite by evening. Take rest and have dinner. Stay overnight at the Biskeri Thatch campsite.
Day 6: Biskeri Thatch from Barshaini and drive back to Kasol (4 to 5 hrs)
- See the splendid views of lofty mountains and pine forests from Biskeri Thatch! Start trekking downhill through the dense forest, crossing a stream and then reach Pulga . The twin village Pulga and Tulga are separated by a stream.
- Cross the bridge on the Parvati River to reach the Barshaini Village.
- Your jeep will be waiting for you there to drive you to Kasol.
Day 7: Reach Delhi back in the morning.
How to Reach Kasol
From Delhi take a bus towards Manali. You can get the bus for Manali either from ISBT or Majnu ka Tila in Delhi. De-board the bus at Bhuntar. All buses for Manali go through Bhuntar and have a stopage at Bhuntar. The Volvo charge is around 1200-1500- per person till Bhuntar.
