Hampta Pass with Chandratal
Nestled in the laps of the Himalayas, Kereri Lake is a perfect destination for a weekend trek. It is a small glacial lake at height of approximately 9620 feet above sea level where you feel natural beauty, tranquil environs and clean air.
Kareri Lake is formed by melted snow water from Minkiani Peak that serves as the primary source of the lake. The lake gets its name after the Kareri village, through which it flows. Due to surrounding forest with lake in its centre makes it perfect spot for migration of several rare species birds every year, so it is paradise for bird lovers.
Crystal clear water melting from the glaciers surrounded by luxuriantly growing grass meadows, scenic hamlets, dense forests playing their songs adds charm to these magnificent hidden gems of Himalayas whose beauty can only be experienced by their own, no words or picture illustrate it.
The Kareri Lake trek is an easy level trek which required no mountaineering skills except walking with ease. It can be completed easily by a healthy person of any age group which have total distance of 15-17 km on one side.
Situated in the Dhauladhar range of Kangra district, Kareri Lake is high altitude, freshwater lake and one of the most magnificent alpine treks in Himachal Pradesh that passes through the forest of Silver Oak, Pines and Rhododendron and lush green meadows.
The trail to Kareri Lake offers you such experience, heavenly walk through picturesque pathways with serene weather which can change its mood suddenly.
Amidst the mountains and alpine trees, the Kareri Lake also serve as base-camp to trekkers for deep treks into the Dhauladhar range and beyond towards Minkiani Pass at 4,250 meters and Baleni Pass at 3,710 meters.
Before begin Kareri Lake trek, you will get few hours to hangout the streets of Dharamsala and McLeodganj. Start the trekking from Kareri village, where you camp at night. Then trail will take you along the Liund stream to the campsite of Lioti.
Passing through the river via boulders and temporary bridges will offer you much thrilling experience. The path from Lioti to the pond will decorated with breath-taking glimpses, which must capture in the camera and memories.
